Before I kick off today, I just wanted to mention that the team over at @blokpax was nice enough to offer a premint opportunity for my @EightBit holder friends! This is not an official partnership or anything, but unofficially, I am always looking for ways to support my favorite people, projects, and communities. They have something pretty cool here as it’s a free mint of what is effectively the LAST NFTs ever minted on the Ethereum Proof of Work Chain. If that interests you, and you’re an EightBit holder, check it out below!

Merit
One of the most interesting aspects of the web3 space is how all of these different communities consist of such a diverse range of characters. Only in crypto do you have total degenerates who drink beer out of their shoes and live with their parents rubbing shoulders with billionaires and successful company founders, and largely everyone is on the exact same page in terms of respect in the space. It’s truly one of the most egalitarian places out there, and one of my favorite things is how it’s so based on merit vs. anything else. This is the only reason why you have anonymous Twitter accounts with anime PFPs with larger followings than the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies; it’s much more about what you have done and what you are doing vs. who you are or what you did.
Honestly, the “networking” described above is one of the huge values of being in this space to begin with. The ability to build relationships with people is unmatched when compared to any other currently existing place out there. It’s incredible what opportunities can materialize and what doors open when you work hard to contribute in this space.

Doors Open
I’m just speaking from my own perspective, but the last 6 months or so have been my favorite time in crypto out of the past 10 years that I have been here. Honestly, it’s no coincidence that it coincided with my founding of Proof of Update and my work within the NFT community overall. I’ve had all manner of opportunities present themselves for me since then, and it’s largely been because I decided to go out there and contribute without expecting things in return.
We talked about this a few days ago on the Bits and Pieces spaces (every Sunday at 9AM PST), which you can catch here if you missed it:

The gist was that what these guys are building with the Bits and Pieces spaces is exactly how you get noticed in this ecosystem, and after grinding for a while you start to see doors that were never there before open to you.
Personally, the creation of my Proof of Update newsletter has led me to meeting so many new friends in the space, and all of us work to build each other up and make sure we can all be as successful as possible. You don’t even need to be an engineer or be building some sort of project, but just being a positive community member can get you noticed.

Take my great friend @classic_craig, for example. I first noticed him being an absolute force of positivity in the Oddities channel within the PROOF discord, and I knew that was the type of person I wanted to be friends with. We began talking with each other and found we had similar views of this space and where we wanted it to go, so we teamed up which led to the creation of the Odds and Ends podcast. Many other people reached out to him as well – which is how he ended up in the PROOF Collective on a borrowed pass and as an Undertaker in the Dead Birds Society Discord, and that is to say nothing of all the opportunities I know personally that he has turned down in the interim.
Now, Craig and I are working on something else that will be revealed sometime in the future which I couldn’t be more excited about – all because we both were trying to contribute to this space and ended up finding a kindred spirit in each other.

So whether you are an engineer, a writer, a founder, a positive person or anything else – there is a way for you to contribute in crypto. And if you’re trying to break into the web3 space, the best way to do it is by starting now. As you may have heard before, the best time to have started was yesterday, but the second best time is today!

My good friend @eminabec and her team at @endstate are hosting a live question and answer session with Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver Devonta Smith today at 7PM EST in the EndState Discord! I’m a diehard Eagles fan, so I’ll definitely be checking in to hopefully get a chance to talk to the man himself (the Eagles finally have a WR corp, hooray)!
